Hippie pants, harem, aladdin pants and cargo trousers
Our unique hippie range of harem pants are all imported directly from Nepal. Our online clothing store retails to the general South African public. We constantly add the latest hippie festival pants, cargo trousers and dungarees to our range every season.
Harem pants or harem trousers are baggy, long pants taken in at the ankle. This style of pants inspired designers to introduce these baggy pants as a part of Western fashion. The idea came from the Middle Eastern styles, and from şalvar or Turkish trousers. The term 'harem pants' that we use today in the West has become as a generic term for baggy trousers caught at the ankle that look like the Turkish style.
These are also known as Aladdin or genie pants and are loose and comfortable. They give freedom of movement, so very different to the way jeans are made. Perfect for the outdoors, yoga, belly dancing or going to the gym. Most of our customers say that they just enjoy lounging around in a pair of drop crotch trousers.
There are a huge range styles using various fabrics making these harem pants great for casual wear. Coming from Nepal, many of the fabrics are handwoven on wooden hand-foot looms. Riding a mountain bike though many of villages, one can often see these looms in the homes or outside with a local Nepali working the loom.
